Overview

Annapurna Sanctuary trek takes us into the heart and soul of Annapurna, the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek combines some of the most fantastic mountain scenery with a fascinating insight into the life of middle hill Nepalese. Moreover, the area is inhabited by people belonging to the various ethnic groups. The region is home to people belonging to the Gurung, Magar, and Thakali groups. Tourists can get a sneak into their life and unique culture. This route leads us through an ever-changing landscape of rice fields, rivers, waterfalls, misty forests of bamboo and rhododendrons to the high mountain glacier and enjoying the magnificence view of nature, passes through more crystal clear views of the unconquered Machhapuchhare 6,993m. (Fishtail) and more other mountains.This magnificent glacial valley is a 'Sanctuary' because of its natural serenity, beauty and the divine presence of the goddesses, Annapurna and Gangapurna, both important figures in Hindu myth and folklore. The highlight of this trip is ascending Poon Hill (3193m) for sunrise for a breathtaking panorama of wonderful snow-capped mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu. Flower garlands reception at the airport and transfer to hotel. PM: Free for orientation. Overnight.


 

Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel. Free in Katmandu


 

Day 3: Beakfast at the hotel. Tranfser to airport for flight to Pokhara. Arrive Pokhara and transferto hotel. Overnight.


 

Day 4: Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1,577 m.)


Two-hour drive to Birethanti, and start trekking following Bhurungi  Khola and reach Tikhedhunga.


Day 5: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,855 m.)


Ascend to Ulleri Village through a plesant Rhododendron forest and arrive at the top of
 Ghorepani pass and camp overnight.

Day 6: Ghorepani to Tadapani(2,680 m.)


Early wake up and walk up to Poon Hill for one hour to observe the sun-rise and a magni-
ficent mountain view and walk back to Ghorepani for breakfast and start trekking to
Tadapani.

Day 7: Tadapani to Chhomrong (1,951 m.)


An easy way down to Kimrung Khola for lunch, ascend again to Chhomorong village which lies at the base of Hiunchuli at the elevation of 6,441m. which also offers a closeview of Annapurna and Macchhapucchhre.


Day 8: Chhomrong to Doban (2,430m.)


Leaving chumrung, the trail descends and crosses the Chumrung river bridge. Climbing high above the modikhola on it west bank, the trail passes through the tiny settlement Tilche in forests of bamboo, rhododendron and oak. Climbing further on a rocky trailyou reach Sinuwa, at 2250m.

The trail continues in rhododendron forest, climbing Khuldi at 2350m. From Khudi, the trail descends a long, steep stone staircase into Modi river viewing thickets and deep bampoo and rhododendron forests. It is then a short distance to Bamboo Lodge 2190m. From here climb through stands of bamboo, then through rhododendron forest up the side of the canyon. After ascending continuously then reaching Doban 2430m, about two hours beyond Khuldi, there also a good Lodges. Passing by the pasture of Tomo and Panchen Barah climb up to Doban Lodge overnight.


Day 9: Doban to Machapuchare BC (3480m)


Beyond Doban the trail traversec several avalanche chutes to upper Doban and the Approach Lodges. The trail then crosses a landslide and another avalanche track to the Himalaya Hotel (2680m). From this place it’s about an hours walk, first on a rocky trail through forests then up a steep ravine, to huge Hinku cavat 2960m. The trail crosses a ravine and a major avalanche track just beyond Hinku. About half an hour beyond Hinku is Deurali at (3000m). Above Deurali, the valley widens and becames less steep and you can see the gates to the sanctuary. Avalanches from Hinchuli and Annapurna South, peak which are above, but not visible from this points, come crashing into the valley with frightening speed and frequency. From Bagar, climb across more avalanche paths, cross a moraine and a tream, keeping up on the west bank of Modikhola river follow a more open valley at the side of Machhapuchhre Base Camp, then arrive Machapu- chare BC (3480m) for overnight.


Day 10: Machapuchare BC to Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m)


It’s about a two hour climb to Annapurna bass camp at 3900m. Start early, clouds often come in before noon and can make the trail hard to find. In the high trekking season Lodges in Annapurna BC are ridiculously crowded. There are tremendous views of the nearvertical south face of Annapurna that towers above the sanctuary to the north-west. The mountain views are stupendous, the panorama includes Hinchuli, Annapurna south, Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna III (7555m), Gangapurna (7454m), and Machapuchare (6997m). Today injoy altitude expirence.

This is usually a rest day. However, the glacial moraine,charismatic mountain views can be indulged in. Excursion of one of the biggest glaciers (Annapurna Glacier ) is just another charm.


Day 11: Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo


Descend and follow the same way to a pleasant Lodge/camp spot at Bamboo. You should have noproblem reaching Bamboo Lodge in a single day from Annapurna bass camp.


Day 12: Bamboo to Himalpani (Hot Spring)


Walk up to Chhomrong and further way down to Himalpani to have a feel of hot spring water and camp overnight at the bank of Modi river. At foot of Chumrung village turn south on a set of stone stairs and descend steeply towerds the Modi river.


Day 13: Himalpani to Dampush (1980m)


Walk downwards to Modi river and ascend to Landrung,a beautiful Gurlung village and lunch at Tolkha and another easy ascent up to Dampush via Pathana. Overnight at Dampush.


Day 14: The fllowing morning it’s a two hour trek downstream to Phedi where you should have no problem getting a bus to Pokhara.


 

Day 15: After breakfast transfer to the airport for fly/drive to thmandu. Overnight.


 

Day 16: Breakfast the hotel. Day free. Overnight.


 

Day 17: Breakfast at the hotel. Free until departure transfer.
