Kathmandu Durbar Square with its arrays of temples and the ancient palaces of the former Nepali Royals enriches your experience of the centuries old civilisation. Then afternoon we drive to holy place of Buddhist, Swayambhunath:Said to be around 2000 years old, this Buddhist Stupa sits atop a hill. The main stupa is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire crowned by a pinnacle of Copper gilt. You’ll get a scenic view of Kathmandu city from there. (B / - / - )

Day 4: Trek to Machhakhola (930m. 5-6 hrs)

The trail now weaves in and out through the beautiful Sal forests, along the Budhigandaki River, past the settlements of Liding and Lapubesi and also past a few rice terraces. The trekking theme to come is that of following this remote and classic mountain stream in all its glory up towards its source in the snow-melt and glaciers on the utterly isolated north face of Manaslu. And so it is that the trail continues to the night’s stop at Machha khola 900m (B/L/D)

Day 5: Trek to Doban (1070m. 5-6 hrs)

After crossing Machha River and Khrola besi, there is a hot spring called "Tatopani". From the Hot Spring we climb over another ridge, then cross the Budhi Gandaki on a suspension bridge. At this juncture, we climb on a wide, well-crafted staircase, then across a landslide and over a ridge to Dobhan 1070m (B/L/D)

Day 6: Trek to Philim (1570m. 5-6 hrs)

Resuming on a steeply rising rocky trail, we skirt landslips in an increasingly harsh and inhospitable landscape and press on up to Yara Khola. By another long suspension bridge we reach Jagat and cross into the designated Manaslu Conservation Area. The white façade of Shringi Himal (7187m), as if dramatically wedged in the valley’s cleavage, looms ahead. The trail inclines gradually to start off with until we’re over a bridge for the slog up to Phillim 1570m. (B/L/D)

The trail now undulates spectacularly with impressive waterfalls on either side of the valley. We pass Eklabatti and head to the river and cross it twice on suspension bridges. The trail follows the river upstream through dense forest. After crossing the river at an impressive spot where it thunders down a narrow gorge, the forest becomes less dense and the trail is fine again. The pleasant walk continues and after a last steep climb we reach Namrung 2540m. Overnight at Namrung. B/L/D)

Day 9: Trek to Lho (3020m. 4-5 hrs)

There is a marked sense of Tibetan influence with closely packed stone houses standing together like apartments and sharing a common flat roof and courtyard. Climbing alongside a mani wall, through fields and past first the village of Barchham then Lihi. We then climb to Sho village - another cluster of stone houses. With altitude, the mountain views become more dramatic - Manaslu, Manaslu North, Himalchuli, Saula Himal and Dwijen Himal rise either side of the trail. Today we have shorter hike to acclimatize, The Budi Gandaki is far down but we follow a small tributary instead. Walking in the shady fir forest is very enjoyable. Upon a short climb to a plateau we will be at Shyala village. Our arrival at the village will be surrunded by huge mountains and those are Himal Chuli and Peak 29 (Ngadi Chuli) to the left, Manaslu and large glaciers straight ahead, other snow summits to the right, at the far end stands Ganesh Himal. From a large chorten we look down into a little dip where two rows of houses form the main part of Sama. At the far end of the village, overlooking the valley stands the well-known monastery of Sama. The reward for these difficult trekking conditions is brilliant westerly views of Himlung Himal, Kangurru and Annapurna II as well as the looming omnipresence of Manaslu.
