Overview


Mt Kailash is the most sacred mountain in Asia. It is believed the physical embodiment of the mythical Mt Meru, said to be the center of the universe. Mount Meru, represented as a mandala, and its image is everywhere both Buddhist and Hindu all parts of Asia. Mt Kailas is sacred Mountain among the four religious groups, such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Bon and Jain. For Hindus, Mt. Kailas is the abode and birth place of God Shiva and Manasarobar Lake is soul of Brahma. According to Tibetans Mt. Kailash is “Kang Rinpoche”. Followers of Bon-Po, the ancient pre-Buddhist shamanistic religion of Tibet, revere Kailas as the soul of Tibet. It is an important site for Tibetan and Indian pilgrims and they make 53 km long circuit, or "Kora", along the mountain to erase the sins of a lifetime. The mountain itself is 6714m. high and with its four sheer walls and snowcapped peak is an impressive sight and it is source of four great rivers Karnali Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra - they all drain the vast Tibetan plateau.
 
The Simikot Kailash Trekking begins after the flight from Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Simikot (2910m) in West Nepal and trek begins in the world of Shangri-La. This trek leads us through the Humla valley, along the Karnali River passing through the Thakuri village with beautiful mountain scenery, crossing the Nara La 4600m, to the mystical Mount Kailash, the holy lake Manasarovar and grandiose Kingdom of Guge, Tsaparang and Tholing, occasionally visiting the monasteries overlooking the village. While in the journey, we come across with pilgrims, traders, adventures yaks and ponies, pass by stone houses, chorten, sky burial sites, memorials and Gompas. We move on towards Mt. Kailash and Manasarovar encountering many important Tibetan towns and Buddhist sites. Further, we head onto Darchen in our preparation for Mt. Kailas Kora, an important part of our Tibet trip. After making the complete Kora of Mt. Kailash in three days, we proceed to Everest basecamp from the north side. Here we can enjoy the view of Mt. Everest, hike to Everest basecamp and visit old Rombuk Monastery. Our dramatic Tibetan journey continues with visits to the major towns and monasteries of Shegar, Shigatse and Gyantse before we reach the ‘Forbidden City’ of Lhasa. Our time in Tibet ends on a high with visits to the celebrated Potala Palace, Drepung, Sera and Jokhang Monastery and the evocative streets of the Barkhor. Then after we have spectacular flight back from Lahsa to Kathmandu .
